There have been a total of 24 fixtures between Burnley and Southampton at Turf Moor- and the Clarets have won the majority.
Last time out
Southampton last visited Turf Moor in December of 2008, during our promotion season. That day Burnley took the points with a 3-2 win. Joey Gudjonsson got two that day with a Perry own goal completing Burnley’s three. All of Burnley’s three goals had come within the first 11 minutes but not even a second half fight back with goals from Jason Euell and Bradley Wright-Phillips could salvage a point for the Saints
Burnley 3 – 2 Southampton. 13 December 2008.
One for us
It was 22 April in 1974 when Burnley beat Southampton 3-0 in a First Division game with Burnley goals from current chief executive Paul Fletcher, Leighton James and Geoff Nulty.

One for them
Southampton came to Turf Moor in October 2006 and ran out 3-2 winners in another five-goal game. Burnley had led twice in the first half thanks to Steve Jones and Andy Gray goals. Grzegroz Rasiak and Rudi Skacel scored the equalisers. Burnley had captain Wayne Thomas sent off after just 16 minutes and despite Steve Cotterill’s side’s best efforts they were defeated by a second Rasiak goal in the 73rd minute.
Burnley 2 – 3 Southampton. 23 September 2006.
One to forget
Burnley made a poor start in October 2007 when Southampton visited. The game was on Sky and as is often the case Burnley didn’t perform for the cameras. Bradley Wright-Phillips and Jason Euell gave Southampton a two-goal lead before a Chris McCann finish after 30 minutes put Burnley back in the game. The deciding strike came from Stern John with a header after 51 minutes meaning, that Ade Akinbiyi’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation for Steve Cotterill’s team.
Burnley 2 – 3 Southampton. 27 October 2007.
Head-to-head at Turf Moor
Burnley – 15 wins, 51 goals.
Biggest win – 4-0, 20 November 1937.
Southampton – six wins, 30 goals.
Biggest win – 1-3, 6 February 1937.
Draws – three.
Burnley have only won once against Southampton at Turf Moor in the last 35 years.
Hopefully Burnley follow the historic trend rather than the trend of more recent years and get a much needed win against Southampton. Though with the current form of the Saints we’ll need a considerably better performance than our last two outings at the Turf.
