Today’s match began with fans looking up at the sky rather than the pitch – and the sentiment was just as fitting at the final whistle.
Just ahead of kickoff a plane was spotted approaching Turf Moor with a special message for the one once known as ‘God’ around these parts.

The home crowd took great delight in beating him for the second time in a row at Turf Moor. Joyous cries of ‘Sacked in the morning’, ‘He’ll take you down again’ and ‘What’s the score’ rang out around the ground – but the loudest chants of all championed current manager Eddie Howe.
